Home Again.....

No photos. Let your mind create the images....

We've been so overjoyed with the sounds of cardinals and blue jays all around us. Sounds of a mid-west summer day. Warm summer days with gentle breezes bringing relief from the heat. We had really missed it all.

Tonight at dusk, we were sitting on our front deck, surrounded by my new flower gardens and being guarded by Craggy. No sunset tonight. Too much overcast, still waiting for rain. The bzhing birds were singing. That's what we call a night bird that flies around calling BZHING. (I think it's actually a night hawk.) It's the sound of a warm summer night. We also heard a few rain birds... robins doing a particular pre-rain song. Very homey sounds for both of us.

We also were enjoying the sound of small children playing with parents a few doors down from us as dusk was turning to night. So nice to see so many children playing outdoors instead of inside on electronic games.

And then..... we saw our first lightning bug!!! And then two more. We're definitely home and it's definitely summer and it's been nearly 10 years.

Puget Sound is a magical place to live. The wildlife is unbelievable and the people (at least on Whidbey Island) are very gentle and loving. It's a photographer's paradise with no end of subject matter. I took two years of Qigong, which changed my life. We had to leave very dear friends... people who were more than friends really. It was a period of time that I wouldn't have missed for anything.

But it's good to be home again.

Hi CF.

I'm glad that you're both happy in your new home, especially since you had to leave such a special place behind.

And you described it so well, no photos were necessary! :)

Hi Olivia!
I'm glad you liked my little personal story. I was just so excited to see the flying thunder beetle that I had to share it. LOL.

Next time it will be back to photos again. But this time I couldn't find any photos of the special sounds I was hearing. :-)

Hi CF,

I only passed through Puget Sounds back when I was a teenager. We came there from Victoria and Vancouver and I fell in love with the whole area. I always thought I would have liked to retire up there.

I have to admit I know what you're talking about in leaving beautiful places and good friends and moving back home. I'm glad I did move back home because it reconnected me with my family and friends I had left so many years ago.

I also have pretty much the same thing with sitting out on our patio. Children playing a couple of houses down or out at the pond fishing. We also have lighting bugs and oh so many many wonderful mosquitoes. :)

I think what I like the most is when I'm out on the patio (sans mosquitoes) and I can sit and watch all the birds and squirrels running around the yard. I went out yesterday and I counted six or seven squirrels and I don't know how many birds in the back yard. Even George will keep quiet from time to time just to watch them.

Well I hope you're having a good day and a good w/e coming up.

Take care,

FM

PS - sorry to keep running on with this comment. ;)

First of all, you are NOT running on with your comment. I love it when I can stir a memory or a thought in my visitors. You do the same thing and much better than I do.

My next door neighbor said that in some people under some circumstances, taking vitamin B6 (I take heavy duty B complex) a couple hours before mosquito time of day might stave off the attack. I've tried it a couple times and I think it helps. Of course, it's early in mos-season.

thanks for coming around.

I'd never heard that about B6 and mosquitoes. I'll have to give that a try. Of course down here our mosquitoes are about the size of a B-52. :)

B-52!! LOL!
