Quiz #6 -- The Answer!!

This one will be dead simple if you already know the plant. If not, you'll need to do some digging to find it. :-)

Don't forget to leave a comment. I really appreciate all of them.

HINT #1: This is an ornamental grass.

HINT #2: The seed head and stems dry and will last for years without dropping any seeds around the house.

HINT #3 and Last hint: My very favorite in the whole world ornamental grass with full view photo.

And the answer is: CHASMANTHIUM LATIFOLIUM, Northern Sea Oats

Thanks for playing, everyone.

Morning, Beth! Boy, I've seen it before, but am drawing a blank. The pictures sure are pretty, though! Guess I shouldn't try to guess so early in the day. I'll look forward to hearing the answer! Have a wonderful Saturday -

Mornin' Beth! How you doin'? We actually have sunshine today too. First in a while. I have to plant garlic and replant my tulips from last year so although the temp is 48 degrees, I'll be outside quite a bit today. Bottom line...a wonderful Saturday. Same back at you.

Hi CF! I realized it reminds me of wheat...

Enjoy the sunshine, even if it is a bit chilly. My friends in Fort Collins have 4" of snow and it's still falling, so at least we don't have to deal with that!

Your day in the garden sounds wonderful. I'm out by the pool sunning, enjoying a quiet morning. But I'd love to be digging in the dirt with you.

Take care!

You're in the right ball field, but not wheat.

BTW, I don't swim either, so I'd be using your pool the same way you do.

Just saw a picture of Barley is that it?

Hi John. Sorry, it's not barley. But it is a grass. Thanks for trying.

Good afternoon! Man I have no idea about this one. Fun quizzes, though. :)

See you later, CF!

Hi Melissa. Nice to see you again. This would look great in your gardens but your goats would probably eat it all. :-)

Beth: There isn't much goats won't eat. not Wheat or Barley so lets try RYE Grass. If that's not it guess you will have to give us good hint.

Enjoy your evening,
John

Nice try but not correct. :-(

As a last hint, I've put up a full view photo. The plant now in October is about 2.5' tall but this is it's first year. I've seen this grass 4' tall. I love it.

jwlw- that is a very common myth about goats...and unfortunately VERY untrue. Sometimes I buy them hay that they won't eat because it just isn't perfect. Goats are extremely picky eaters.

But this plant DOES look very much like something they wouldn't mind trying at least once! I'm on the edge of my seat, Beth!! Can't wait to know the answer.

Hi Melissa. I'll be giving away the secret today, most likely. You do you like the photo of the full plant?

jwlw said...

HI: I based my comment about goats on the goat I had one time and she ate everything in our yard. Never saw her turn down any thing.

Just looked threw about 300 photos of Ornamental grasses and did not come up with a match.

Wow, John. You really are conscientious! Okay, I'll post the answer...

I do like the photo of the full plant. Now that I know what it is I might look into planting that next year!

Hi Melissa. I like this plant so much and have talked about it so often that my even husband who is a non-plant person knows it by name. :-)

Copy the whole name out of my post and google it that way. The second listing for it (from "American Beauties") gives a wonderful description of it.

When you plant it, give it a little room so it can grow a bit over the years.

LEt me know how it goes for you.
